My GSA’s March for Our Lives Trip

I am a social worker in a small high school in the South Bronx. I want to take my GSA (Gay Straight Alliance/Gender & Sexuality Alliance) kids to Washington, DC to participate in the student-organized March For Our Lives on March 24th.  Because most of my kids have never been to DC, I would love to take them down there a day early so we can tour the monuments and see some of the Smithsonian museums.  I am fundraising to cover the cost of the van rental/gas/tolls/metro fares and 1 night in a hotel.  Any extra money will be used to buy them food and hoodies.  

This is an amazing group of young people who have become true activists in our school community. They have developed and conducted workshops for our staff and students in order to create a safer and more supportive environment for all students in our school, and they have been very brave in their efforts to educate others about their experiences and to be their true selves. I am extremely excited for them to see and be a part of this youth movement, and to experience  activism on a large scale while recognizing the power of their voices.  Most of my kids are seniors, so this is kind of my send-off gift for them before they head out to do great things in college and beyond.
