My grandson second year in college

Donation protected

My name is Agnes Mack, and I am now retired from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I served as Director for the School of Medicine Admissions Office. As many of you may or may not know that I had to take guardianship for two of my grandchildren over nine years ago. They are now both teenagers, and we just take one day at a time. Financially it has been very hard for me however; we owe the most sincere gratitude, and utmost appreciation to all who donated towards Go Fund Me page I setup for my grandson Jaysean Carter last year. Without this financial support, he would not have been able to attend college. Nevertheless, we would like you all to know that Jaysean and myself would like to extend our most sincere appreciation, and we are forever grateful for the opportunity that Go Fund Me have afforded to my grandson (and my family), especially with the reality of the impact your gesture has served, being the very deciding factor, as to whether we will be able to afford college tuition for 2016-2017.
We are asking again for your support financially towards his second year of college 2017-2018.Taking care of two children was difficult on my finances, and working for the state of Virginia I did not get an increase of salary for over ten years because of the state budget. I had to get help regarding finance consolidation due to my unexpected responsibilities of taking care of my grandchildren. We always took one day at a time, and continue to pray, and keep the faith.
The college education format and lifestyle has been a transition that takes a bit of getting used to for Jaysean and many Freshmen. He took advantage of all resources that was available to him. He went to the writing lab when needed, and he also request and received a tutor, he shared with his professors when he need to understand difficult, and joined a study group. He completed his first year at Old Dominion University, thanks to many people who have kind hearts. I cry at night for him because sometimes I feel that the cards are stack against him. He is determined to finish college and not be a statistic. The neighborhood he grew up in when he was younger, a lot of his friends never made it out of their community they lived in alive. Nevertheless, he would like you all to know that he is “most certainly appreciative and forever grateful especially with the reality of the impact your gesture of donations has served, being the very deciding factor, as to whether he will be able to afford college tuition.”
Message from Jaysean: My first year attending ODU, I managed to join the track team becoming one of the fastest members and receive an award for being monarch citizen of the month. My overall experience was humbling and eye opening. I say this because there were a lot of times where things got incredibly difficult ranging from money to deaths in the family. Throughout it all I refuse to let anything stop me from reaching my goal. I have a lot of people depending on me and praying that I do well and I refuse to let them down. So, on behalf of grandparents and family I, Jaysean Carter would like to say… THANK YOU for the opportunity that you’ve provided, and I will live up to all expectations to the very best of all my abilities, as well as any opportunities that come my way. I intend to make everyone that have invested in my education proud and I will pay it forward to the best of my abilities.
