My name is Alexandra Soares and I live in Atlanta, GA. I decided to start this fundraiser project on behalf of a dear friend whom I have known for the past 11 years.
My friend Andreina just turned 38. She holds two degrees, one in hospitality, and one in modern languages. Andreina has lived and worked in countries like Italy, Cost Rica, Mexico, and in the US where she spent 5 years. In 2008, she decided to return to her home country Venezuela to live there to pursue a degree in Modern Languages and become a University Professor. Mostly, she wanted to be with her family. Unfortunately, the political situation in Venezuela deteriorated, and people found themselves trapped in their own country living under sub-human conditions.
Andreina suffers from a condition called Myoclonus, a neurological condition that causes involuntary and very painful muscle jerks, which needs medical attention and easy access to anti-convulsant medication. Due to the current humanitarian crisis and government policies in Venezuela, she can´t find or purchase any of the anticonvulsive medication she needs, or other prescription medications. Andreina wants to get out of Venezuela to live and work in a free country where she can seek the medical treatment she so desperately needs. To do so, she needs enough money to cover the initial expenses of moving (a one-way plane ticket, first two months of housing and medical expenses until she finds work in her new destination).
Andreina still has many dreams and plans to eventually help her mother with basic medical care and items so that she may live with dignity. With help, Andreina will be able to leave the country and improve her life drastically. Please help my friend get out of this situation. Andreina is a wonderful person who deserves better out of life and wishes to later help others in similar situations and pay it forward.
