My Friend And Her Dogs Just Lost Their Good Man

Donation protected
I was crushed today to get a text from Alison that her Colin had passed yesterday.

I met Colin years ago in the dog park—we were fellow dog-lovers, and chatted almost every day for some time. Colin was an Irishman—a real one, from Ireland, a carpenter with long hair and a beard, lke another in history.

In the same time-frame I often saw a pretty blonde woman walking a dog down my street.

When they both appeared—married!! —as my new next-door neighbors, I was both surprised and delighted. I've had many neighbors in my 20+ years here, and they are easily the best.

Colin was an excellent carpenter and contractor, and Alison studied natural healing while she worked for a caterer. Alison is a smart, gentle, thoughtful and caring person, and the two together were an interesting combination! We would trade off dog-sitting duties, and they were a comforting presence here.

When they decided to move, as there was no workspace for Colin there, I was sad, but we stayed in touch, Alison remaining my faithful petsitter when needed, and Colin stopping by from time to time to chat to and from his work projects. When our beloved dogs would age and pass,  with new rescues eventually moving in, we shared the tears for the old, and joy of the new.

Both were hard workers, and living in LA and supporting dogs kept things lean, but they had each other and their beloved companion dogs and love made it work.

Now, Colin is suddenly and unexpectedly gone, and his wife is attending to the practical aftermath, wthout having had a chance to let down, fall apart and begin to rise above the harsh reality. When she does, not just the loss of her love, but the loss of an income is going  to hit hard.

I'd like to find a a way to give her a breather of a few months to sort Life out, while protecting her dogs, Kellie and Kije,  at the same time. She may likely have to move, which is traumatic in the best of,circumstances. Now she is all Kellie and Kije have, and their future is a question mark until she knows where she will be, and how she will fund it. The amount of work she has at present will not be enough, and she will have to solve that math, and knowing her she will, but not overnight.

If you knew them, and knew how very sweet and kind Alison is, and how concerned she is about everything, but especially her rescued dogs, you would know why I have made this appeal. Everyone has their problems, and few of us are wealthy, but any help we can give at this awful moment will mean so much to a wonderful woman.

Thanks for reading, if you can also share this fundraiser, that will mean a lot.
