“My New Favorite Person…Sean Jack Murphy”

I want to introduce you to my new favorite person in my life, Sean Jack Murphy. As I write that sentence, I think that I would’ve posted that to my Facebook page with a bunch of pictures, and be the normal proud Aunt of a new baby.  Unfortunately, that sentence comes with more than just photos, it comes with a story….

I will start with my brother Sean & his wife Caitlin; they are the most caring, genuine, loving, supportive, and generous people you could ever meet.  Sure, everyone says that about someone they know. You may think that I’m only saying it because they are my brother and sister in law, but they are truly kind to the core, and selfless.

Many know that Sean & Caitlin’s love story started 16 years ago (that’s right at the age of 13), as high school sweethearts.  They are the quintessential love story. Sean proposed to Caitlin in Disneyworld in front of the Disney Castle (because Caitlin is Sean’s princess). They dated throughout high school, graduated together, moved into their 1st apartment, got their dog Sugar, and bought their 1st house. Then came a precious baby boy named Sean Jack Murphy!!

Baby Boy Sean was born January 9, 2018 at 10:22PM, changing so many lives. Unfortunately, sometimes things don’t go as you plan. As soon to be parents, we envision the perfect moment our baby is born; you look into their eyes and them in yours….all you see in that moment is pure love. That was not the case for Sean and Caitlin. When Baby Sean was born, he was immediately rushed to ICU. He has not seen his new nursery, he has not met his furry sister Sugar and most importantly, Sean & Caitlin have not had the opportunity to get to know their Baby Boy.

During his 32 days at CHOP, he has endured endless IVs, tests, fastings, genetic testing, spinal tap, and blood draws, for the answers as to why their Baby Sean was sick. Sean and Caitlin have watched all of this with so much pain.

Most recently, Doctors diagnosed him with congenital-hyperinsulinism .  This condition is very rare, affecting 1 in 50,000 babies a year.

Explained, this is a condition when the body is not able to stabilize the sugar levels. On his own, Baby Sean’s sugars are constantly dropping, which puts him at risk for seizures. On Tuesday (February 20th), Baby Sean will have surgery to install a stomach tube, which will then be connected to an IV bag, to keep the sugars flowing into his little body.  This bag will be with him at all times for the next year.

A “normal” day in Sean and Caitlin’s life consists of running back and forth from home to the hospital. They get sleep when they can.  To see them so tired and run-down breaks my heart. To make things even harder, Sugar, their 1st fur baby became sick within the last few weeks.  Their only option is to send her to “Doggy Heaven”, which will gut-wrenchingly happen tomorrow (2/19). Caitlin was put in the hospital for a week with a bacterial infection.  Its times like this I ask myself why? They are good people, doing the “right thing” in life, working hard, and loving each other. Not knowing when they can come home as a family, I’m asking everyone to send positive thoughts, energy, & prayers their way.

Trying to fight the physical, emotional, & mental stress, there also comes a financial burden.  Both Caitlin and Sean work very hard in their jobs. They are now being faced with the realization that they have to return to work, while their baby stays in CHOP. Even with health insurance, Sean and Caitlin will be faced with hefty co-payments and deductibles. The cost of gas and tolls alone, every day, to and from the hospital and are adding up. They are proud people, but sometimes even proud people need help.

Please think about how you can support this AMAZING family.

Every donation is greatly appreciated and will go a long way.  I personally thank you, and I know the Murphy’s will be extremely grateful too!
