Hi everyone!
We are reaching out to you because we started a GoFundMe page for my dad, Richard laws. He is a wonderful father, husband and is a veteran that served his country honorably.
My dad was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma stage four in in 2013. They wouldn't give him a time limit because they said he already passed it. Everyday was a miracle. He continued to work for as long as he could. In 2016 he was granted disability.
He has been doing chemo on and off for seven years. It is taking a toll on most of his organs. He battles with his thyroid, kidneys, liver and spleen he still continues to fight.
Last year my dad and mom's car broke down. It needs a new engine or they need a new car. He has to travel back and forth to Columbia VA hospital, 76 miles one way. I haven't had the extra money to provide this my mom works full-time but it is just covering living expenses. He has really been dealt a lot of blows.
On top of all that they can't live on their property because there is electrical issues that cause them not to be able to use their well or the electrical hookup for the camper that they were living in. They have since moved in with my brother. My dad's dream is to live back on his land.
It may not seem like a problem but when you don't have the money or even the physical ability to fix stuff it's a huge mountain to climb. He's a great man that doesn't deserve any of this. He continues to amaze me with his desire to live even through his suffering.
He has been hospitalized twice in two months and which we had to provide transportation for him to get there and back. Most all of my brothers and I live a distance from him. He needs to be able to travel at a moment's notice and with us having our own families and duties it can pose a problem.
My dad is the kind of guy that would give the shirt off his back to you if you needed it, he even stopped on the way to the hospital to help a lady that had ran off the road he was seizing up from hypercalcemia and still had to stop and make sure someone else was okay. He's a pretty amazing a guy.
I really hope you can help me improve my dad's quality of life as he deserves to live. He's one of the good guys and I really want him around to get to know his grandchildren.
