IL MIO SOGNO ERA AVERE UN QUADERNO
Vengo dall'Afghanistan e vivo in Italia dal 2010, sono un rifugiato. Lavoro da quando ho 5 anni per aiutare la mia famiglia. Dopo la scuola elementare sono andata direttamente a lavorare per strada, vendendo acqua e pane fino a mezzanotte. Non ho mai avuto una vera infanzia, nessun giocattolo, nessun bambino con cui giocare. Il mio unico sogno era avere un quaderno. Ho sempre voluto imparare ma non avevo libri e non potevo studiare.
Sono arrivato in Italia dopo un viaggio tragico e tumultuoso. Una volta arrivato, ho dormito per un mese per strada cercando di dimenticare per un attimo che ero quasi morto cercando di arrivare qui. Ma ero determinato a non vivere per strada. Ho accettato qualsiasi lavoro che potessi trovare e ho imparato l'italiano che era il mio primo obiettivo per riuscire a integrarmi. Dopo molti lavori manuali e dopo aver ricevuto i miei documenti, ho iniziato a lavorare come mediatore culturale, soprattutto con i bambini rifugiati, essendone stato uno anch'io. Ho poi preso il diploma di scuola superiore. In seguito, ho avuto l'opportunità di studiare presso una prestigiosa università americana a Roma: la John Cabot University, dove ho affrontato molte nuove sfide: una nuova lingua, scrivere saggi, tutto continuando a lavorare.
Ma io voglio e merito di più. Sono stato accettato alla Columbia School of International and Public Affairs di New York City con una borsa di studio che coprirà la metà delle mie spese. Questo programma mi darà l'opportunità di studiare la risoluzione dei conflitti in una prestigiosa scuola negli Stati Uniti. Potrò fare stage, partecipare a workshop e scambiare idee con rinomati leader mondiali.
Il mio sogno è aiutare coloro che hanno bisogno di aiuto in tutto il mondo, come me, la mia famiglia, e soprattutto contribuire ad aiutare e salvare l'Afghanistan dall'ignoranza e dal terrorismo. I giovani afgani sono vittime del terrorismo internazionale, gli viene tolto il diritto di essere umani, hanno bisogno di studiare, avere contatti con il mondo esterno, l'opportunità di realizzare i loro sogni.
Sono arrivato fin qui da solo, ora ho bisogno di te per andare ancora più avanti!

MY DREAM WAS TO HAVE A NOTEBOOK
I come from Afghanistan and I’ve been living in Italy since 2010 as a refugee. I have worked to help my family since the age of 5. After elementary school I went directly to work on the streets, selling water and bread until midnight. I had no real childhood, no toys or children to play with. My dream was to have a notebook. I always wanted to learn but had no books and could not study.
I arrived in Italy after a tragic and tumultuous journey. Once I arrived in Italy, I slept for a month on the streets trying to forget for a moment that I almost died trying to get here. But I was determined not to live on the street. I took any job I could find and learned Italian which was my target for getting integrated. After many manual jobs and after getting my documents, I started working as a cultural mediator, especially with refugee children, having been one myself. I studied to get an Italian high school diploma. After getting the diploma, I had an opportunity to study at a prestigious American University in Rome: John Cabot University, where I faced many challenges: a new language, writing essays, all continuing working and supporting myself.
But I want and deserve more. I have been accepted at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs in New York City with a scholarship that will cover half of my tuition expenses. This program will give me the opportunity of studying conflict resolution in a prestigious school in the United States.
I could have the chance of doing internships, attending workshops, and exchanging ideas with renowned world leaders.
My dream is to help those who need help around the world, like me, my family, and especially help and save Afghanistan from ignorance and terrorism. Young Afghan people are the victims of International terrorism, their right to be human is taken away from them, they need to study, having contact with the outside world, the opportunity to realize their dreams.
I've come this far by myself, now I need you to go even further! Please help me cover the remaining costs of my tuition expenses!
