My Daughter’s Cancer Story

Lindsey Marie Hunt Husmann
The Year 2017 started out a good year for Lindsey, her husband Mick, and their three sons. They were settling in after a recent move and in March Lindsey started her dream job.
Then in April at age 38 Lindsey was diagnosed with Triple Positive Stage IV Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Inflammatory Breast Cancer. The cancer had metastasized to her bones at time of diagnosis. She was told there was no cure for Stage IV cancer. If cancer went into remission, with research and new drugs each year there could be something to help her when cancer returned. Lindsey’s doctors feel she had the disease six months or less at time of diagnosis.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a rare and very aggressive cancer. According to the American Cancer Society only around 1% of all breast cancer cases in the U.S. are IBC.
After many scans of all kinds, biopsies (breast, lymph nodes, bones), lab work, etc., she started chemotherapy. Shortly after finishing chemo a lesion appeared on her eye. She had six weeks of steroid infusion. This did not help as was hoped. In November due to many headaches an MRI of her brain revealed four spots. In December a follow up MRI showed the number of spots increased to twelve. The lesion on her eye as well as the tissue surrounding her is cancer. She is getting close to the end of twenty one aggressive radiation treatments to her eye as well as entire brain. Presently she has radiation burns around her eye plus a few on her head and now has a tumor in her other breast which is thought to be cancer. The doctors say her cancer is very aggressive to have spread in such a short time.
In addition to Lindsey’s current illness she has been ill for most of the last seven years. In 2011 she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the spine and endured a twelve hour surgery and months of healing. She also had a thyroid storm, a thyroidectomy, then Graves‘ disease.
Lindsey says there is so much in life she still wants to do. She wants to live to see their two younger sons, Cody and Logan graduate high school. Michael, their oldest son, graduated in 2017 and will leave soon to go into the Navy. She wants to spend more time with her husband, Mick, as well as the rest of her family and friends. Lindsey loves her family so very much.
If you can and it’s in your heart to donate, Lindsey and her family will be forever grateful. The donations will go toward the mounting medical and drug costs now and in the future. The donations may help her get to Chicago to see an IBC specialist. She desperately wants this to happen. Your support and prayers would mean so much to her.
