My food stand and helping the homeless

About me

My name is Roschelle Rosa .  A 31-year-old mother of two boys, one aged 12 years and the other 6 months, I love looking after my family. Currently on maternity leave, I work for a care home. In the 4 years that I have been involved with the residents, they have become like my extended family. Each one has a different place in my heart. A natural carer, looking after people comes naturally to me. I love to have a positive impact on people’s lives and if I can make a difference, I will go the extra mile.

One of my care home duties is to organise events each as Valentine’s Day, Hawaiian nights, the 60s, 70s, Country and Western, Halloween, Italian evenings, food from around the world, and Red Nose day fun-raisers etc. It is my responsibility to make sure that there is enough food for all people to enjoy, ensuring that the presentation is of high quality. Most of all, the food has to be delicious and nutritious. Over the years, I have built up extensive catering experience. I spend a lot of time cooking at home. My cooking experience covers classic British cooking as well as creating dishes from different around the globe.

My cause

Cooking is my passion and it gives me so much joy to see people happy and enjoying different varieties of food. I see food as being an integral part of daily life. It brings together families and friends. The homeless desperately need a supply of good quality food. At the same time, I want them to enjoy food in the same way as those living in homes.

For many years, I have dreamt of having my own food stand. I now see this dream of having a chance of becoming a reality. The food stand will be pulled by a van or car or may comprise an integral food truck. Once the business is established I will go to different homeless shelter once a week to offer my food to all free of charge .I have also been looking at how I can provide meals for people living on the streets. My catchment area will be the whole of the town that I live in, Nottinghamshire   .This is where I will have a pitch and sell my food to the local community. The food stand will provide food for all dietary preferences:vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, low fat, and everyday eating.

How the money will be spent

One of the best things about setting up a mobile food stand is the low start-up costs. With minimal investment, I can get myself up and running in a short space of time. My idea is to choose second-hand equipment if possible. Where I have to buy new, I will shop around for the best prices. All equipment has to comply with legal requirements as well as being sturdy to stand the test of time. It will be used every day so losing time due to breakdowns is to be avoided. I don't want to have to continually replace equipment so will buy the best that I can afford. The focus will be on cooking food that does not require large amounts of varied equipment; this will keep costs down as well as save on cleaning and maintenance.

It will be my dream come true to provide those in need with high-quality nutritious and tasty food. Reliable transport is key so that I can travel to different homeless shelters.
