My Brother needs funds

From my Sister -in-Law.
they have never asked for a hand-out until now as my brother-in-law is in the hospital and can't work. Anything will help them

I never dreamed that I would find myself in this position, stretching out my hand for financial assistance, but here I am…

Around three years ago, my husband started suffering from a mild kidney disease. He turned to a senior doctor available through the standard Israeli medical system. It took three years and countless tests to determine the cause of the disease, a disease so rare there are only a few hundred or thousand worldwide. The treatment to hopefully, G-d willing, cure the cause of the disease, over and above the accumulative kidney damage, is through chemotherapy, and exactly two days before our daughter’s wedding my husband took his first round.

The attending doctor gave us no hint that the treatment would be difficult, or that he wouldn’t be able to continue working, dubbing the chemo “homeopathic.” However, early in the week of sheva brachos, my husband had to be hospitalized for five days, coming home an hour and a half before Shabbos. On Shabbos, we sped back to the hospital. He was released on Monday, and here we are on Tuesday, and he’s back again.

We have no source of income. From a strong, active, happy person, someone who brought joy to countless others, my husband became a weak, broken man. I don’t work for various medical reasons, and I will not be able to in the foreseeable future. We still have children at home, and we have debts from marrying off two children in the past year and a half, including a brand-new couple to whom we must give the bare minimum, according to what we promised the other side. When I say minimum, I mean just that: the wedding was in a Yad Eliezer subsidized hall (a “takanah hall”), the orchestra was hired for only three hours, and I fought for the minimal outlay for the clothing and trousseau. I feel bad for my daughter and son in law who got far less than the standard, but this is our reality…

We require a minimum of 10,000 shekel ($3,500US) per month just to maintain our very simple lifestyle. We have always lived simply, we never took vacation; at most a short day trip. Our home is furnished with second and third hand furniture and appliances, most of them quite old. The amount I wrote does not include travelling to and from the hospital, household help needed when the mother isn’t home, not the prescription medications he must take, nor other things he needs to help him tolerate the very powerful drugs he is ingesting, to help him bear his terrible suffering, the suffering of someone who previously didn’t know what it was to complain and now can’t help but cry out.

Please, I beg you, hear my cry that comes straight from a broken heart. Help us get through this difficult period we are facing. We are almost alone in Eretz Yisrael, with most of our families overseas. Our parents are no longer young and can’t help us financially. Our families don’t rub shoulders with wealthy people, whom we can turn to for help.

Thank you.
