Devastating Cancer Diagnosis For My Beautiful Wife

Donation protected
For those of you who don’t already know, my beautiful wife Lucy and mother of both our children was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October 2019. As you can imagine this turned our world upside down. It has been especially difficult as she was misdiagnosed for over ten months and by the time she was accurately diagnosed, she was told the tumour was too far advanced to be offered surgery.

If you have ever had to watch someone you love so much go through the suffering that comes with  this terrible condition, you will understand that it is not only the physical debilitation but the mental strain and emotional turmoil that makes for such an energy draining rollercoaster for everyone involved.

For those of you who know Lucy, she is a very private person and as such has been very reticent in even allowing others to know what she has been going through, preferring instead to remain focused on all that is positive. Those who know us both, know that we are very independent people and so the thought of asking for help has to date been something we have sidelined as an option. However, recent events mean that I am now realising it is time to swallow my pride and speak out and ask for help.

Part of what Lucy has gone through has been life threatening blood haemorrhaging, as the tumour has periodically and unpredictably bled. In practical terms this means that several times in the last few months she has been rushed into emergency  to receive urgent interventions to save her life, and on two occasions she has even been told to make provision for the fact that she may not survive the blood loss even with such interventions. Having to say a potential goodbye to those she loves before she is admitted to theatre has been absolutely heart wrenching for us all.

In addition she was informed by medical staff that the interventions that will be made available to save her life in any similar future situation, will be limited according to the cost benefit analysis of the current medical model, which specifies that such extended intervention  to save her life is in their words considered ‘futile.’ We have been in the process of challenging this decision through the relevant political and legal channels and are both still believing for Lucy’s complete recovery, refusing to come into agreement with any prognosis that says otherwise.

In short this situation has meant I have not been free to work as usual, which is why I am setting up this page in the hope that we can receive enough support for me to remain available as much as  possible to both Lucy and our two girls during this very challenging time and so she can also secure the necessary resources for pursuing private treatment options.

We fully understand that given current events, now is not the most ideal time to be setting up such a page as this, as there has been a lot of financial uncertainty for many people recently. We really understand this, as during one of Lucy’s emergency admissions to hospital, she was also diagnosed with Covid-19 and so in addition to everything else we had several weeks of extreme quarantine restrictions. However, we are going ahead because we know the power of people’s goodness is greater than adversity. So whether you are able to support us to the tune of five dollars a week for the next few months or make a one off donation, we know that great things become possible when people come together to help one another. So any support whether you deem it big or small is most gratefully received and is an invaluable part of the victory we are believing for in terms of Lucy's complete recovery.

We would also greatly appreciate it if those of you reading this could help us obtain maximum exposure by posting it out to everyone else you may know.
