This is my first child. It’s been a long, stressful pregnancy so far. At 20 weeks my baby was diagnosed with Gastroschisis, a rare birth defect in which the abdominal wall doesn’t close all the way and the intestines leak out into the amniotic fluid thru a hole in the belly. She will need several surgeries to not only slowly integrate them back into her body, but the proteins in my amniotic fluid will slowly damage and swell her intestines so there is a chance some of the intestines will be damaged beyond repair and need to be cut away and sown back together. At 24 weeks we discovered my placenta is fundal grade 2. Because of this damage to my placenta, my daughter is not getting all of the nutrients, blood, and oxygen she needs to develop and has fallen very behind to the point where she has IUGR (intra uterine growth restriction). She is very small. She only weighs a pound as of now at 25 weeks. Coupled with her birth defect her size is very troublesome for surgery. We have now found a possible hole in the septum of her heart allowing a small amount of blood transfer between the left and right chambers of the heart and do not know how that will affect her yet. She is very strong despite all of the difficulties and I wholeheartedly believe she will overcome these challenges. I am asking for money bc she will need several surgeries upon birth and will be in the NICU in Atlanta for hopefully just the first few months of her life. I do not even live near Atlanta, so the travel, stay, and food costs for me to stay with my baby will be immense. Not to mention, I have already had to cut my hours at work in half to make sure I am not damaging my placenta further. I am not sure how much longer I will continue working, I am trying to stay at work for as long as I can to stay afloat. I am just a server at a restaurant and will have no paid leave from my job, so the day I stop working is the day I stop getting paid. I will most likely not be able to work up until the day of my delivery given her special circumstances, so I’m not sure what I am going to do about bills if that is the case. I will have no paid leave while in the hospital or while I am with my baby during her stay in NICU, but will still have to find a way to pay my bills back home. I want to stay by my baby’s side thru this whole process. A baby needs their mother and I refuse to let her go thru this alone. I am sure god will make a way for me to be with my daughter thru this most difficult time in her life and am asking for help. Any left over money from our time in Atlanta will be spent on my baby girl to make sure she has any medicines or special care she may need.
