My amazing friend, her partner and son, Bobby

On the 15th October 2020 my beautiful friend, Becky and her partner, Connor welcomed their first born baby boy Bobby Patrick McGann into the world. Becky describes Bobby as ‘he was all I ever dreamed of’.

On the 23rd October 2020 Becky and Connor found out that their 8 day old baby boy had a critical heart condition called Hypoplastic Left heart Syndrome. This is also known as half a heart Syndrome. This means that the left ventricle is underdeveloped and too small and the aortic valve is too small or narrow, so this affects the oxygen rich blood flow to the body.

Bobby will have to have 3 open Heart surgeries, he has already undergone one at 11 days old and will have another between 4/6 months old and another between 3/5 years old and maybe potentially need a heart transplant later on in his life.

Becky is a self employed hairdresser, and I am sure you will all know that these type of people have been hit extremely hard throughout the pandemic this year meaning that Becky needed to come back to work just 8 weeks after having Bobby and an emergency cesarian, as she was out of work for over 3 months. Becky is now having to cancel clients to be at hospital with Bobby and Connor which means she loses her only income.

Bobby at the moment is under the care of Alder Hey. In Becky’s words of the hospital she said, ‘I can’t describe to you the amazing work these doctors, surgeons and nurses do and have done for Bobby and how amazing they have been with me and Connor’.

As you can imagine this has come as a very big shock to her, her partner and their families especially during Covid-19 where no family or friends have been able to be there for them even if it was just for a drink, a hug or a shoulder to cry on. Becky’s family are already organising an amazing ball (for when it is safe to do so) with raffles and prizes where all money which is raised will go to the amazing Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

I am still collecting as much as I can for the ball but in the meantime I am wanting to raise money for Becky. For her and her little family in order for her to have a couple of weeks off work whether that is for a little bit of extra maternity leave when Bobby is able to arrive home, for when Bobby needs his next surgery and Becky can have time off without worrying about an income or for some family days out which they have missed out on so far. What I will be doing is walking (I wish I could run but my lungs are not good with my asthma), with my German Shepherd, Bear for 7 miles (I chose 7 miles for Bobby’s weight when he was born) for 7 days. I will continue to do this where I can on my days off work too.

Please donate❤️. Even if it is a little amount, every penny really does count. Thankyou so much for taking the time to listen to this story. We are all with you every step of the way Becky, Connor and Bobby! Xxx
