Amanda is gracious, giving, funny and fierce. She is loyal, humble and is in need of a break. She is one of my best friends - and in her words we are "sisters" more than anything else. This is true in my heart - to change her terminal diagnosis I would do anything. I love her from my soul. She is the only person I have used those words with. Anyone who knows Amanda would agree. Our friendship has been undefinable from the beginning.
My friend is dying from cancer. I view her as living with cancer, but to do so with dignity in this area - well. The expense of living in the bay doesn't concern itself with an individual's end of life finances.
I am humbly trying to raise her money so she can stay in her home until her ultimate time comes. She hasn't much time left. The doctors at Stanford cannot provide her a time frame. It is now clear with the spreading cancer, progressing pain, living in bed and her recent surgeries....her returning to work is not a possibility. None of us should be dying while away from their friends and their home.
She is 37. Her medical issues have NEVER stopped her before now and she has always lived a fiercely independent life. After getting her master's degree while fighting cancer the first time, she established a career helping children learn and teaching them to believe in themselves. Rather than taking a leave from school, she fought cancer and did her studies and work from hospital beds. She chose thus far to inspire others living with chronic illness and surviving trauma to fight for their dreams. I could write a book on what an amazing human being she is.
She has no idea I am making this GoFund Me page.
My only dream for her that may be tangible - is to open a forum through which the goodness of others can lift her spirits and remove the burden of an extremely terrifying fear of losing her home. She has enough fear with the dying.
It is her time to be on the good side of karma. And for you all who know me - you know I would not make this page on a whim. She is my sister - in my family of choice.
I am lucky to know good people. And I really think this can happen.
