My 91 yr old aunt lost her home

Mexico City and its outlying areas were struck by a devastating earthquake on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Hundreds lost their lives and many were left with nothing. While I am thankful that no one in my immediate family was hurt, my 91-year-old aunt and my brother Carlos, my aunt’s caretaker, lost their home.  The apartment building where they live was condemned as it is in imminent danger of collapse. My family suffered a considerable loss. Besides their home, my aunt lost memories and heirlooms, and my brother lost his workplace. Your help can make a big difference right now.

They are both staying at my mom’s home temporarily. But even though my family has shown incredible resilience through the earthquake’s aftermath, they are all still grappling with the devastation, as there are people from at least other 400 severely affected buildings just in their same neighborhood.

To help restore some of what my family members have lost, I have set up this page seeking $56,000 USD to cover their immediate expenses, basic needs, clothing, medicines, medical treatments, re-issue of documents and identifications, seed money to restart my brother’s business, and a down payment or rent for their next permanent home.  This is the one thing I can do while they begin the arduous task of returning to their normal lives.  Anything beyond this goal we will donate to trusted institutions helping those affected by the two earthquakes and two hurricanes that struck Mexico in the first twenty days of September.

This is a desperate and unexpected situation in our lives, and especially for my aunt who has restricted movement and hearing loss, and I am sure that every peso and every dollar that you can pitch in will go a long way. We will be wholeheartedly and forever thankful for anything you can give.
