Brian Blinn

Brian is a friend of ours that had a terrible accident back in October of 2014 which resulted in a traumatic leg injury.   He shattered almost 3" of his lower femur in his left leg.  Once the hardware was placed into his leg on October 20th the road to recovery was to be six months of rehab and he would be walking by April of this year.  Due to several set backs that have occurred along the way, the first being blood clots that were found in his lower calf that had to be treated and the second being the onset of an infection in/around the hardware in his leg have made the road to recovery much harder and longer than anticipated.  During this time Brian is unable to bear any weight on his left leg. Brian has been through three surgeries on his leg so far and will be going through two more in the upcoming weeks, an Irrigation and debridement which will be followed up by a bone graft a few days later.  These surgeries alone will require Brian to be in the hospital for at least 7 to 10 days.  We will know if the bone graft was successful or not within 8 to 10 weeks.  The outcome of this will determine the next 12 months.  If the bone graft is successful then he will be able to put some weight on his leg for the first time since October in May or June.  From here he will have to work on his mobility and learn to walk again and will have to go through 8 to 10 months of rehab.  The hope is that by this time next year Brian will be able to get back to work and start living his life again.   If the bone graft is unsuccessful meaning that the infection has made it's way into Brian's femur there will be nothing else that can be done at this point and he will be going down the path of having to amputate his leg just above the fracture.  This scenario will keep him down much longer than the first scenario.  Prior to the accident Brian spent the last 12 years in the fire service as a FF/EMT the last being a part time FF/EMT at Englewood Fire Deparment and EMTat Arcanum Rescue. Brian was also due to start school in January for his medics.  He has always been willing to help others both personally and professionally.  He has helped to raise money and awareness for Hunter Syndrome (MPS).   Professionally, he has worked to help several of the local fire departments in need with raising money, receiving grants or donating personal protective equipment when he could.  During this time Brian has been unable to work and as you can imagine, the medical bills are piling up.  Due to the complications that I spoke about above that will result in Brian having three or four more surgeries before it is all said and done on top of the three he has already had.  The cost of the medical bills alone after insurance will be well into the 6 digits.  A lot of people have reached out to me during this time wanting to know what they can do to help. The site itself requires that you set a goal before you can proceed so I have set one but utimately the goal is for those who want to help to be able to do so.  Anyone that knows Brian, knows is not one to ask for a handout which is why I went ahead and set up this fund for those of us who want to show Brian our support during this time.   Any donations that are received will be going strictly to help pay for medical/living expenses.  All donations that are able to be made are appreciated!  THANK YOU
