Michelle's Long Road to Recovery

Eleven years ago, Michelle Buettner was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.  She underwent massive chemotherapy and radiation treatments which were unsuccessful.  She then underwent stem cell replacement from her own stem cells.  Still no luck.  Finally, she underwent stem cell replacement from umbilical cords which thankfully was successful.
Now, it seems that the treatment that saved her then has greatly contributed to the failure of her lungs today.  After reoccuring bouts with pneumonia and her left lung collapsing she went to the hospital in Appleton, Wis.. From there she was air lifted to the University of Wisconsin Madison Hospital which is highly acclaimed for lung specialists and lung transplants.  Michelle has been blessed with a wonderful medical team and has undergone two serious surgical procedures to attempt to repair holes in her left lung with hopes that it will once again return to funtioning.  Her right lung was severely damaged from the radiation for the Hodgkin's and only funtions at 1/4 %.   She remains very weak and in critical condition.  She has had to be on a ventilator since the last procedure which was Monday, Feb.16th.  The decision has been made to do a tracheotomy on her today, hoping that will be more comfortable for her and allow her to rest more easily so her energy can focus on healing.   She has a feeding tube trying to get nutrition into her little body.
Throughout this entire ordeal, Michelle's wonderful parents, John and Nancy Syndergaard, have been at her side, as they were 11 years ago.  Her wonderful sister, Mary Syndergaard Bowles, has been commuting  from her home and family to stay with them for extended periods.  Michelle's brother, John, and her children, and grandchildren, and Aunt Nita, have come as often as possible, and stayed for extended periods as well.
Michelle has been hospitalized since the 1st week of January 2015.  Her parents are staying at a nearby hotel.  Her recovery is going to be very long,   This page was started to help with the continued living expenses to allow her family to remain with her as she battles to regain strength and breath.                                                                     Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Michelle's recovery to a funtional life, and for strength and support for her family whom are suffering along with her in this struggle.
