Mutual Aid For Community Activists

Donation protected
Mutual Aid needed to cover the legal fees, replacement of phones and laptops, and incidental costs due to the arrests of three community activists in Santa Rosa, California.

Amber (she/her) is a Black, biracial granddaughter of Haitian immigrants. She is an advocate for racial justice, a content creator, freelance writer, and the youngest, Black biracial Commissioner on the Status of Women for Sonoma County. She seeks to be a facilitator of positive change within her community.
Amber has been outspoken against local police brutality, law enforcement accountability, and racial + social equity within the wine industry. She has lead and organized local solidarity events, vigils, and events promoting Community Unity, and community education.

She, along with other local activists worked together to get Measure P - a measure for third-party police oversight of the Sonoma County Sheriff - on the voting ballot for the 2020, including actively informing, educating, and spread awareness about Measure P leading up to the voting process. (Measure P passed with over 2/3rds approval).

Rowan (she/her) is a Black biracial, artist, activist, and a strong, outspoken advocate for racial and social equity. She dreams of attending college for a social justice degree, and to be the first generation college graduate in her family. In addition to being a strong supportive voice for local propositions Measure P and Measure O, she was also the go-to artist for digital imagery design, increasing the visibility and education of local events and causes. She is well known in the local community for being a trustworthy and empathetic friend. She is committed to continuously educating herself on prison industrial complex abolition. She is known to enjoy an ice cold breakfast root beer.

Kris (she/they) is a queer, Latinx mother and granddaughter of Chilean immigrants. She is a current graduate student and a fellow at a Leadership Institute. She is a Marine Corps veteran that deployed twice. Her direct experience in the military shaped her opposition to the unlawful occupation of other nations.  As an activist, she helped campaign for Measure P, she spoke out about her experiences in the military, and parenting Black children within her community. She believes that abolition is transformative and the future. She spends her free time working out and adventuring outdoors with her children.

She has been a vocal advocate of racial justice, police accountability, and social equity in Sonoma County.

Detailed plans for the funds that are raised:
The three of us have agreed to have the funds be withdrawn by Amber when we need to pay for legal fees and to reimburse the replacement costs of our technology. A majority of the funds raised will be used for our legal fees. The total needed so far for our legal fees is $2500. Kris had to pay bail, so we will reimburse her the $1000 for that. We had to purchase new phones and the total for that was $1300. We will also need to replace our Macbooks and will buy two to share among us.

*Any and all leftover funds will be lovingly poured back into the local community
