The Music Bridge Group Piano Program is a community outreach effort supported in part by the Ellington. Lessons are designed and implemented by undergraduate music students at Lynchburg College. Aspiring musicians in the Lynchburg, VA, area are invited to become a part of this exciting program.
Our goal is to serve as the primary resource for high-quality piano and music instruction for beginning students ages 7 to 10 (grades 2–4). Music lessons offered through the Music Bridge Group Piano Program are ideal for beginners seeking group instruction, musical challenges, and enrichment activities. Motivation and interest are the only entrance requirements. Once students have completed the first few years of beginning instruction, they are invited to continue on to 30-minute private piano lessons and group voice, rhythm, and theory classes.
Group classes are conducted in a multi-keyboard lab in Hebb Music Center (Snidow Chapel) on the campus of Lynchburg College. Introduction to music making through group piano instruction includes weekly learning activities, performance opportunities, games in music theory and ear training, and piano instruction.
Each semester culminates with a free concert for the community. Music Bridge participants are proud to share what they have learned throughout the semester on Sydnor Performance Hall Stage at Lynchburg College.
In keeping with the Ellington's mission of identifying, cultivating, and exposing musical talent in the Lynchburg area, Dave Abrams had a vision to provide free music lessons for at-risk children in our community. The result was the formation of the Ellington Music Bridge Group Piano Program. Thanks to Dave's vision, dozens of children have greatly benefited from this program.
