INSSTRUMENTS FOR MUSIC THERAPY PROGRAM AT THE CINCINNATI CENTER FOR AUTISM

Hi there!

Before diving into introductions, please first know that the following sentence has been echoed by many of our students who will directly benefit from your generous donation:
                                              “ I LOVE MUSIC! “

I’m Kate Legge, a board certified music therapist and owner/ director of Music Matters, Inc ., a private practice music therapy organization based in Northern Kentucky.   Together with contracted music therapist, Allyson Sosa, we work throughout NKY and greater Cincinnati to provide in home and community-based music therapy services, largely for individuals who have special needs.

One such location is the Cincinnati Center for Autism (CCA).  Each week, (30+) students enrolled at CCA’s school program participate in group music therapy sessions.  Here, they learn academic concepts, social and communication skills, boost executive functioning processes,  are able to express themselves, among may other benefits- all through the use of music.  Students and staff alike look forward to weekly sessions!

A roadblock to further expose students to a wider variety of musical experiences is that we are currently limited to personal instrument inventories of the music therapist: what she is able to transport to the center.  Being traveling therapists, we are confined to instruments that are more portable than others.  Though the center was recently the recipient of 6 new acoustic guitars that were generously donated, aside from a keyboard and piano, there are no other instruments that remain at CCA to assist with giving students additional opportunities to learn and express themselves through music.  Our students are smart, talented, and benefit greatly from music-based instruction; we would love for them to be able to engage and participate in a wider variety of musical experiences to enrich their bodies and minds!

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Your thoughtful donation will enable us to purchase new instruments for students at CCA.  Our wish list includes:

-          A digital weighted keyboard.  The current piano at CCA has seen better days, and this keyboard will still provide a wonderful piano sound.  It’s also housed in a cabinet to help protect it!

-          A gathering drum, which multiple students can play at once.

-          A collection of very cool drums called Rhythm Pals.  They have a bottom similar to a 5 gallon bucket, which makes them easily stacked to be stored when the drumheads are not on!

-          A drum kit which includes shape drums, ocean drums, buffalo drum, and others.  Again, a space saver as drums can be nested inside one another, and specific technology that provides a great tone and controlled volume and frequency ranges.

-          Several sets of paddle drums.  These have a wide grip foam handle for good grips, as well as pre-tuned drumheads.

OUR GOAL:
We are aiming to raise $4,000 and purchase instruments to be used during the 2017-2018 school year and beyond!   If we would be so fortunate as to surpass our goal, those additional moneys will be used to:
-          Purchase additional instruments for students and/or

-          Go directly to support the funding of CCA’s music therapy program.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
We sincerely thank you for your consideration and generous contribution toward this programming.  Allyson and I both feel passionately about using music to assist others learn and grow; please know that your donation will be extremely appreciated and well utilized!  We would be most grateful if our campaign is shared, and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
