For the past two years, I have been teaching war veterans, in drug rehab center, how to play classical and acoustic guitar. The vets I work with are provided with guitars at their VA, but all of their guitars are unplayable either because they are broken or too small. Every week, I am able to bring three to four of my own guitars for the vets to use, but that is often not enough.
Music is able to substitute drugs and alcohol as a source of relief for physical and mental pain. Because of this, I would like to not only give the VA to more guitars so I can teach more vets at once, but I would also like the vets to have the opportunity to continue playing music, even when I am not around to provide them with instruments.
By the end of September, my goal is to raise $5,000 to be able to purchase five new classical and acoustic guitars for the VA. In the future, I hope to expand this goal even further.
