Music Broth's Summer Fundraiser

Tax deductible
Everybody loves music right? Musical Instruments are tools to be creative, challenge ourselves, build confidence and connect with people. But not everyone has the means to access musical instruments – through Music Broth we want to change that!

In Scotland, there are 1,200 fewer young people receiving music tuition in schools this year compared to last. Many families are unable to afford the increasing costs. There are 40% less music tutors in schools despite music learning’s benefit to social, cognitive and psychological development. Many local organisations who deliver music programmes to those in need struggle with the maintenance of musical instruments and have small budgets to pay for good quality equipment. The Scottish music scene hosts a wealth of talent, but financial and other barriers can prevent people from reaching their potential.

To help support people in need Music Broth's aim is to improve access to musical instruments and equipment by reducing social and financial barriers. As Scotland’s first musical instrument and equipment library we want to enable anyone to pursue their musical ventures and express themselves creatively.

Music Broth is able to help people by way of our library membership scheme which enables individuals, bands/families and organisations who represent those in need to access musical instruments and equipment as and when needed.  Some of our revenue goes towards our Hardship Fund which subsidises the cost of membership for people who can’t afford or are the most in need.  In under 2 years we have collected over 500 musical instrument and equipment donations, delivered 2 successful music based programmes to young people in the community and currently have 82 members signed up to our library benefiting from access to musical instruments. We work with organisations including Barnardo's, Refuweegee, and Impact Arts to support those who are represented by them. This is a massive achievement for us as a completely volunteer-led organisation and being able to see the positive impact access to musical opportunities has on people is something we are passionate about and believe is worth supporting!

Alongside our Summer Fundraiser Gig at the ICE BOX, Arts & Music Centre, Glasgow on Saturday 27th July we are asking for £500 to help us raise money to continue delivering accessible music based workshops and music learning opportunities for those in the community who would benefit most. We are also looking to raise money to support our repair and maintenance of unused and unwanted musical instrument donations. This will help us to continue improving access to musical instruments within the community.
