Musée Mécanique

The Musée Mécanique, a family owned collection since 1933, has become a popular destination for San Francisco residents and tourists alike. Many remember us from our location under the iconic Cliff House at Ocean Beach and many more will know us from our current location at Pier 45, Fisherman’s Wharf. Regardless of the location, we have become a popular destination for families to spend the day, to entertain friends and inlaws visiting from out of town, tour groups and even the occasional wedding. 

The Musée is currently owned and operated by Dan Zelinsky, who has worked at the Musée for over 40 years. The collection was started by his father, Edward Zelinsky. Finding the location at Pier 45 was one of the last things Ed did before he passed away in 2004. Since then, Dan has taken over and transformed the Musée into an arcade beloved around the world. 

Due to the current global pandemic, the Musée Mécanique, along with so many other businesses, was forced to close. However, unlike many other businesses, the Musée will not be able to reopen anytime soon. Being entirely hands on entertainment in a crowded arcade, we will be one of the last places allowed to reopen. With the inability to offer curbside pickup or online sales, our income has dropped to zero while our expenses remain very high. 

We are asking for your help!

It costs an average of $250,000 for us to break even every year, which is not including paying any of the employees, including Dan. 

It is our goal to reopen the Musée once it is safe and without risk to visitors and employees. However, financially speaking, we cannot afford to wait that long. We need assistance in paying rent, insurance, electrical and keeping up with general maintenance. For so many of our machines, sitting in a warehouse not being used, will cause them more damage over time than the wear and tear of being used daily. With over 300 machines, it is still a full time job keeping each machine in working order. 

Our sincere hope is that people (you!) will want to see the Musée Mécanique reopen once Covid-19 has been eliminated and life gets back to normal. Being a business reliant on quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies, we are changing things up and asking for donations to this Go Fund Me campaign so we can wait out the pandemic and reopen for years to come.

Debido a la actual pandemia mundial, el Museo Mécanique, junto con tantas otras empresas privadas, se vio obligado a cerrar. Le Musée Mécanique, une collection de famille depuis 1933, est une destination bien connue pour les résidents et les touristes de San Francisco. À cause de la pandémie mondiale, le Musée Mécanique, ainsi que d’autres entreprises, était obligé de fermer. Par contre, contrairement aux autres entreprises, le Musée ne sera pas possible d’ouvrir bientôt. C’est notre but de rouvrir le Musée quand il est sûr et sans risque pour nos visiteurs et nos employés. Néanmoins,
nous ne pourrons faire pendant longtemps sans du soutien financier.

Nous avons besoin d’assistance pour payer le loyer, l’assurance, l’électricité, et l’entretien en générale. Ça coute à peu près 225 123 € ($250,000 USD) chaque année et il y a d’autres dépenses aussi. Le Musée dépend entièrement sur les pièces de monnaie et nous sommes en train de changer des choses pour rouvrir dans le futur. Das „Musée Méchanique", seit 1933 in Familienbesitz, ist eine beliebte Attraktion in San Francisco, sowohl für die Einheimischen, wie auch für Touristen. Auf Grund der globalen Pandemie musste das Musée Méchanique, wie so viele andere kleinere Betriebe, seine Türen schließen. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Unternehmen jedoch wird das Museum nicht in absehbarer Zeit wieder öffnen können. Unser Ziel ist es, BesucherInnen wieder zu begrüßen, sobald die Sicherheit von diesen und unseren MitarbeiterInnen gewährleistet werden kann. Leider können wir auf Grund unserer finanziellen Situation nicht so lange warten.

Wir bitten um Unterstützung, um Miete, Versicherung, Strom sowie die Instand-Haltung zu bezahlen; alles zusammen kostet ca. 250 000 USD pro Jahr, Gehälter noch nicht mit eingerechnet. På grund av den globala pandemin blev museet tvunget att stänga, liksom flera andra verksamheter, och kommer inte kunna öppna igen inom den närmsta framtiden. Det är vårt mål att återöppna museet så fort det blir säkert och riskfritt att göra så, för både anställda och besökare, dock har vi inte ekonomiska medel att vänta tills dess.
