Hi my name is Shirley Betts-Hobbs. I am a mom of two. A 10yo and my 13 yo. My son has low functioning Autism level 3. I am a caregiver to him as well as my deaf parents. They lost a daughter and I my baby sister, Marlene, back in 1997 to a premeditated murder via strangulation by her Ex boyfriend. As always it feels like yesterday and our current staus has put everything back to the forefront of our lives. Mom and dad can not travel but want me to be their voice and stand our ground that he is not to be let out of his life sentence! My sister Marlene was found across the street in our neighbors bushes after we reported her missing and searchers scouted our area. It feels like yesterday to us. The murderer, Robert D. Warlick (You may check into the date October 5, 1997 nassau county, Callahan, Florida murder trials) as there was much media coverage. He was then sentenced at 17 as an adult to life in prison without chance of parole. This year laws changed to allow her murderer to get a resentencing trial in Florida where as I am in Kansas. I am being flown there but They will only provide trial day and before travel ticket and an investagator to transport to the court that day. The hearing is set for October 22, 2025 next month. I need a return ticket and rental car and perdium cost. My household can not afford to travel. As a matter of fact we have had one bad thing after another encounter our household and I just want to see my family and visit my sisters grave after the trial there and get a flight back. It shouldn't take much money but when you have little a little feels like a lot. Anything will help. My parents are too old and disabled to go so I will be reading their victim statements along with mine and many others affected at that time. I plan to add pictures and more in the next few days. It shouldn't all be heartbreak and sadness, but closure and family time too.
