Murder Hobo Mutual Defense League - Robert & Robin

Donation protected
Okay, so first off: I'm terrible at this. The whole process of asking people to pitch in is really uncomfortable. :/

If you got here by getting a link from me, then you probably know the whole story. If not, the short of it is that a friend of mine, Robert, is disabled. He's in the process of trying to get disability, but it's a long, fraught process. He and his wife were kind of sinking slowly when covid hit. She lost her job and they started sinking fast. Robert's dad has Parkinson's and had to be moved to a care facility. She got another job for less money. Then her car was run into and totaled.

Since then the sink has turned into a plummet. Robin has needed to rent a car to go to work to pay for renting a car. It's not a good situation.

So, we're going to help. We're going to get them a car, help with the car payments, cover the insurance for a bit, and (hopefully) keep it repaired. It doesn't come near to fixing all the problems they're experiencing, but hopefully it gives  them a leg up.

Pitch in whatever you'd like, however you'd like. The car is bought...but they had to finance about half of it. Still, paying a car payment is _way_ better than what they were paying for a rental.

So why the name?

It's an old D&D joke--in Dungeons and Dragons, the players make up characters that go from town to town killing monsters and getting treasure...like murderhobos. But, all kidding aside, roleplaying games, and the gaming community has taught me a great deal...taught me how to work with others, social mores, and even ethics. This really hit me last fall as I watched a group of gamers patiently and caringly help a kid who is somewhere on the spectrum play a game with them. Now, not every gamer is kind and empathic, and there's been some who've really been outstanding jerks. But, in my experience, gamers...a lot of gamers...have a soft spot for the disabled, for the overlooked, for the disenfranchised, for the geeks and nerds and dweebs. Because we know--we _are_ these folks.

So the idea hit me to form a group...a loose association...to help people. But instead of being a "charity" in the traditional sense, we'd be more like a club or gamer group. Someone who gets an invitation to join the league isn't getting "charity." They're just getting a leg up 'til they can be in a place to help out other folks. Maybe it's just me, but I _hate_ asking for help. But joining the Murder Hobo Mutual Defense League--I'm all in on that! :)

Anyways, it's kind of a joke, yes. But it's also something I'm serious about--so, if you throw in...whatever amount--you're in the League. And if you need something...I'm not saying I can give it. But I'll try.
