2020, PGH, Mummy Sleeping Bags for the Homeless

Donation protected

Since 2016, I have been raising funds for Homeless Carepackages during the colder winter months. This year, I am setting out a hefty goal of $500 for $39.99 Coleman Mummy Sleeping bags, with a temp rating of 0F. Typically I create roughly 200 packages each year, including items such as: socks, hats, gloves, hot and hand warmers, fresh fruit, hand warmers and other hygienic products.

This year, I am raising the bar. As someone who works in the downtown area, I have noticed an influx of people who are not only there at 5PM after I leave work, but are laying on the cold sidewalk over a piece of cardboard when I'm getting in at 6AM. Sleeping. With some shelters uncertainties looming, such as :  Smithfield United Church of Christ , which houses hundreds of people overnight, the cold reality is, people are losing local resources.

This year I would like to raise $500 in hopes of purchasing sleeping-pads, and light weight Coleman Mummy Sleeping Bags for extreme temperatures.  This is not to encourage the situation of sleeping outdoors overnight, but it is to face the unfortunate possibility with local shelters closing due to safety concerns.. that it may be their only option. Each sleeping bag is $39.99 with tax, and is rated for temps as low as 0F,

Thank you for your consideration and time for my fundraiser. When you stand outside for 5 minutes during a windy, cold winter in Pittsburgh, please consider donating $5 to a good cause. Because in those minutes, you can grasp the disheartening reality of some.
