Mum's Book

Donation protected
2 years ago, our Mum (Angela) started putting pen to paper; slowly but steadily chipping away at the enormous amount of ‘life-hacks’ and tips that are central to our family’s daily routines.

After being a stay-at-home Mama for 19 years and raising us (6 children) with Dad (Mark) on a single income budget, Mum has certainly proven her brilliance in not only being able to make ends meet, but also actively supporting and participating in the School, Church and local communities around her. We have always had more than enough at home, but it really is the family traditions and experiences that have truly shaped our childhood memories – all thanks to Mum’s ingenuity.

This book began with our realisation at just how incredibly smart our Mum is. We started asking (then begging) her to write a little book that we could take with us to our own families down the track. It didn’t stay little for too much longer. We sat down with Dad and started noting all the potential topic areas we could cover (camping hacks, meal planning/cooking, family birthdays, storage, Sven, and Christmas decorating to name just a few). There were a lot. The more we talked, the more we realised just how inextricable each of these things are from our everyday life.

The idea for a book soon took off to become a reality as other people caught wind of this family project. We have realised people want to hear her stories, our stories; to see ‘behind the scenes’ of the Vandy Clan, to learn of the experiences which have created the necessity of this budgeting brilliance.

We want people to see just how everything comes together. Our family is by no means perfect, and ‘behind the scenes’ really can get messy, but with Jesus central to our role as a family, things become a little less tricky. We see Him working in all of us day by day, providing for our needs and creating opportunities where we in turn can bless others in the same way we have been blessed.

Which comes back to Mum’s book: ‘Smooth as SILK [Single Income Lots of Kids]’.

Mum has poured hours into writing down these experiences and life tips, and now that this phase is coming to an end, we kids want to see this book published so Mum’s dream of blessing the community around her, especially other young Mums, can come true.

We want to raise enough money to make publishing happen over the coming months; any amount you feel called to give will be an enormous blessing and another step toward making this book a reality.
