The school solicited the assistance of the local chapter, who asked for my guidance in continuously overseeing and maintaining the band. The US Chapter has agreed to assist, but has projects they are also working on for the shoool. Funding for such needed extracurricular activities are not sustained by the Ministry of Education; therefore, we are seeking your support in making this band stronger and ready to compete. Some may recall that the band performed for Prince Harry when he visited Guyana in 2016 in recognition of its 50th anniversary of independence from the British.
Steelband is an artform that originated in Trinidad and later introduced in Guyana by stalwarts like Roy Geddes, M.S., A.A., Philbert Moore, Boysie Bishop, M.S. and Charwin Burnham, to name a few. Today, this artform has spread to the USA, Canada, England, Japan and Germany. The leaders of this craft are working very hard to keep it alive in Guyana and we will be doing our part by strengthening the band at Multi! We ask you to join hands with us in doing so.
We are seeking donations to provide uniforms for 17 players and the conductor, 1 pair of conga drums, 1 cowbell and tuning of the entire orchestra.
The competition will be held on February 18 at the Sports Hall, Georgetown, Guyana. Funds are needed urgently.
Thanks for your kind support.
