Their generation is leaving us. Their simple farmsteads are disappearing, as "progress" and growth arrives. When our rural parents pass, family farms are split or sold, dividing estates in shares. Following my mother's death in June, we were at that juncture...deciding whether to keep a small part of my parents' homestead as my share or allow it to be sold...possibly developed one day.
Maybe we can help create a new model...for our small farmstead and others': a model where old barns remain, pastures stay green and garden spots bring forth several "messes" of squash & green beans, year after year...a model which makes small homestead farms profitable and sustainable as event venues for city folks, nearby...preventing those homesteads from becoming mini subdivisions, instead.
We believe that Mtn. Roots Revival is supposed to carry on:
~ #1) Building a wedding & old-ways gathering barn – where barn event guests can experience a typical, working, sustenance farmstead, too...where they'll kick off their shoes and learn the basic double toe to the rhythm of bluegrass...where they'll join in and feel the spirit of the old gospel hymns...where their plates will be filled with fresh-cut, skillet-creamed corn and fried okra, homemade candied yams and hand-breaded fried chicken...with fried pies or scratch-made banana pudding, too. :)
If we build the big ol' gathering barn and get just a few farm animals back on this homestead, again, we hope y'all will visit with us one day...in person if you can or online through photos or films, if not. :) Even if you're far, far away, we'll try to make you feel like you're right here in the barn for the toe tapping...for the old hymns we hope will drift gently through the pasture...for the chicken coop...the pet sow and so much more! :)
~ #2) Building upon our Facebook-based site, Mtn. Roots Revival, to create an online, video-based, old-ways magazine and handmade market...sharing the old-ways stories, skills & knowledge of countless other elders with a new generation...keeping their way of life alive...passing it on. Visit Mtn. Roots Revival.

Professional DVD burning will take place when we reach the volume minimum. We will post an update on our home page at Mtn. Roots Revival when it's been reached. Check our timeline there. We will also post updates on this campaign page, so do read related GoFundMe emails.
~ $44 Reward Level: Our "next" book, "Looking Back: Carrying On" has "not" been written. We have completed and shipped the first and 2nd printings of our "first" book, The Dough-Bowl-Biscuit Maker (as of 2019). If you liked our first book, this book will carry on – as will we – we hope and pray. We'll look back to more memories and methods...more cooking but other old ways, too...ours and those of others, including some our followers will send us from memories of their own loved ones' cherished, country recipes, etc. This "next" book likely will "not" be completed in 2018...likely printed in 2020. We want to take a bit more time for some special things...time to catch our breath, too. We do "NOT" plan to hold a separate pre-printing order for this "next" book...if you would like it, please contribute at the $44 level and we will send it to you when it's written/printed. :) INCLUDES shipping.* Thanks!
~ $50 Reward Level: If we get to build the barn we envision, we would love nothing more than to etch/burn/carve/write your name or your loved one's name on a barnboard. That would be amazing...we hope and pray to be able to do that one day...with lots of names of folks from all over the country. If we do, we will photograph it and send it to you one day! :)
~ $144 Reward Level: All above. :) One of everything above, with the club membership and barn dedication one day, too, we pray. Read individual rewards and remember that we will ship as items are completed and printed and as production minimums for each have been met. INCLUDES shipping for each.*
~ $195 Reward Level: Five Copies of our first story/cookbook, The Dough Bowl Biscuit Maker, from our 3rd printing (once $10,000 campaign goal has been met). See $42 reward level for more info. Folks who've ordered tell us they make great Christmas and wedding gifts...special gifts to grandchildren with whom you'd like to share your own ancestors' country-cooking heritage. We have included lined pages in back, where you can cite our dumpling and dressing methods, for example, and explain what you do the same or differently. In this way, we can help you pass our common heritage to the next generation. INCLUDES shipping.*
~ $315 Reward Level: A Hand-Carved Dough Bowl. This octagonal dough bowl was modeled after the bowl my grandfather carved for my mother...the one she used each day for years. It's a bit larger...around 14" in diameter at upper, outer rim & about 4" in external height (base to upper rim). Mama thought her bowl was too small (she usually made two batches when serving lots of folks); so, she thought this bowl should be bigger for y'all. If you choose this reward level, expect 3 to 4 months or so from the time of your contribution, varying with the availiability of wood; drying time and the number of folks ahead of you. Each bowl is carved by hand from a log...a lengthy process. Maple wood. Striped (marked) maple, as we typically use, might take longer to find. Shipping is INCLUDED in the continental United States (only).*
