Ms. Sa'o Needs Your Help

Aloha and Talofa, this is Zach Faulkner and I am raising funds to help my mother. My mother is Sa’ofetalai Faulkner who is known as Ms. Sa’o by all her students and schools she worked with in American Samoa. This year was a rough year for my mother as she was in the hospital on two separate occasions. Since my mother was sick in March and under her doctor’s suggestion to focus on her health to get better and take care of her immediate needs, she chose to step down from her university job. Because of this, she really needs financial help!
Earlier this year in March, my mother was rushed to the hospital in Hawaii for difficulty with breathing. She was diagnosed with having acute pneumonia with large masses of infections in both lungs and sepsis. We could have lost her if she was not taken to the hospital. During her 5 days stay in the hospital, she had tests done that had raised more red flags with her health. For those that know my mother, she doesn’t stop working and because of this work ethic she puts her personal care on the side. Although my mother has healed from her bout with pneumonia, her immune system has weakened. In June of this year, my mother was diagnosed with a condition called endometrial hyperplasia with atypia in which she was at a high risk of having uterine cancer and was scheduled to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy in July. She recovered from her surgery and was pleased to learn that she is cancer free. My mother is determined to get well so she can get back to what she loves to do which is to teach and impact students’ lives.
Due to stepping down from her hectic schedule of working and pursuing her PhD to focus on her health, my mother is facing mounting medical bills, and back bills that need to be paid. The money will help pay for medical bills that were not covered under her medical insurance, her utility and rent expenses since her final paycheck was issued at the end of July. She needs help meeting her expenses, especially with the high cost of living in Hawaii until she is able to get back to work.
I am reaching out to all my friends, family, and former students and colleagues of my mother to assist her in her time of need. She was a selfless educator who gave of her time to help her students and school community. She gave a lot of herself to help students reach their academic goals and now she can use help.
