Remembering Our Teacher, Ms Noralyn

Donation protected
On March 21, 2018, as an unseasonable snow fell, our beloved Noralyn Lumbre unexpectedly passed away in Washington, D.C., where she served tirelessly, passionately, and selflessly as a preschool teacher. Although spring will eventually set in, Noralyn’s untimely passing leaves a profound and blossomless void.

A devoted schoolteacher, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Ms. Noralyn’s tutelage, compassion, generosity, and vibrant smile were unequaled.  She had a singular gift for inspiriting young minds – imparting not only tangible academic lessons, but far more important and enduring life skills, such as resourcefulness, confidence, empathy, and friendship.

Her boundless energy and joy enlivened the classroom, which she constantly and creatively transformed into magical learning spaces – jungles, rainforests, farms, solar systems, the Oval Office, to name a few.  She could make an empty cardboard box more alluring than an iPad.

She motivated the timid to shed their shells; she encouraged awareness and tenderness in the more domineering; she guided mothers and fathers through their parental challenges; and she supported her colleagues through both professional and personal tribulations and triumphs.  “Ms. Noralyn”, as she was lovingly known to her preschoolers, taught her students to uncover and honor their unique passions, and emboldened them all to view their wildest dreams as both limitless and achievable, “architect-astronaut-dinosaur scientist” included.

A recipient of the Bright Horizons Janice Hill Award, Ms. Noralyn was nationally recognized for excellence in early education.  Teaching was her passion; the blessing of knowing her was ours.

In addition to her devastated students and extended school community, Ms. Noralyn leaves heartbroken her adoring “partner-in-crime” husband, three beautiful children, and aging mother with medical needs - all of whom relied on her income. We humbly and respectfully ask for any contributions towards defraying significant funeral and other costs for the Lumbre family during this dark and indescribably sad time.
