Hike for Rosie: Medical Expenses

The Lohman-Mitchell family is our second family. When they walk in a room, they spread love and acceptance making everyone feel loved.  They have ALWAYS been there for us Quills and now they need help.

In May 2021, the spring of her senior year of high school, Rosie Lohman Mitchell was fighting for her life at UMass Medical Center. After countless tests, procedures, biopsies, and MRIs, Rosie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that covers her brain and spinal cord with life-threatening complications of intracranial pressure. After ten weeks of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries, Rosie received approval for compassionate use of an experimental drug directed by world renowned experts.

 

Rosie and Mary (her mom) are currently inpatient at Spaulding Rehab in Charlestown, Massachusetts. They are close enough to Children's for any potential high intercranial pressure events (should the shunt fail or tumour increase).

The tumor has caused Rosie extensive paralysis. At Spaulding, Rosie will work to regain as much mobility as possible and skills for more independence. Her family is struggling to adapt their home to fully support Rosemary's growing needs.

On May 13, 2022, we will be hiking four peaks in the White Mountains: Mount Tom, Mount Wiley, Mount Field and Mount Avalon. The hike will cover 10.7 miles, 3,500 feet of elevation gain, and three peaks over 4,000 feet. We will be hiking in honor of Rosie. We will walk because she can not. We will climb mountains because she is climbing them everyday. We hike to raise awareness and funds so that we can make a significant contribution to the family's existing fundraising efforts.
