Msandaka School for the Deaf

Deaf kids are the forgotten people in Tanzania. Mostly because their parents don't know how to take care of them.
The Msandaka School for the Deaf changes that.
Located in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, the school brings in kids from the villages and teaches them how to communicate, make friends and learn vocational skills so they can live full lives as members of the local community.
It's a small school where the kids are taught by two teachers using sign language. It provides for their health, welfare and education. And Tusker Trail, the leading Kilimanjaro Climbing Company, with the help of our climbers, supports all facets of the school.
The financial needs are ongoing, as the school pays for clothing, food, medical, teacher salaries, school maintenance and vocational tools. Since 2001 over 250 hearing-impaired kids have studied here. Starting with a single classroom and 13 students, the school now has 120 students.
