Ms. Wheelchair Florida 2020

Donation protected

I am asking for your support so that I can participate in Ms. Wheelchair Florida 2020. Two years ago, in October of 2018, I had an accident that caused an incomplete spinal cord injury. This accident impacted my already limited mobility (I was born with Cerebral Palsy) and although it was a long and frustrating process I learned how to sit, eat, and move again with the help of a new wheelchair

After my injury, I had to learn how to adapt. Adapt the way I live and adapt the way I work but I wanted all my passions to align.  I knew from personal experience the frustration and the obstacles that people living with disabilities face.

Competing in Ms. Weelchair Florida 2020 will give me a once in a lifetime opportunity to educate and empower others who face similar challenges with mobility and independence. Unlike traditional beauty pageants, Ms. Wheelchair Florida is not a contest to select the most attractive individual. It is instead a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication, and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities.

I have worked hard in 2019 to do as much as I can on my own.

So far I :

Became a Work Incentives Practitioner that way I can guide others to navigate the processes involved being employed while on disability benefits. If I can educate 1 person how to do it properly and give them some peace of mind, that was more than enough for me.

I am working as a Disability Advocate for Self-Reliance; a Center for Independent Living (CIL) that focuses on youth with disabilities transitioning from high school to learn the necessary life skills to become more independent. Where I am given the opportunity to speak to policymakers about all things disability-related.

I became an athlete with the Paralympic Sports Tampa Bay (PTSB). Where I play a variety of adaptive sports while in my wheelchair at least twice a week. I have a great time and can show others that you can have a fun and fulfilling life in a wheelchair

Now I Need Your Help to Reach my Next Milestone.  Here are Ways to Help.

-Please consider donating to help with expenses associated with the competition. My goal of $700 will help cover the $450 application fee (due by 2/1/2020) and travel costs to compete for Ms. Wheelchair Florida.

-Share this page and my mission with as many people as you can. Reach and awareness is so important for this cause.

-Stay Tuned as I share my progress and my experience at the competition. Awesome updates to come.

More About Ms. Wheechair Florida

Ms. Wheelchair Florida is happening February 27-March 1, 2020.

The mission of Ms. Wheelchair Florida is to provide an opportunity of achievement for women who happen to be wheelchair users to successfully educate and advocate for the more than 64 million Americans living with disabilities.

The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, the business community, and the legislature. With this opportunity, I can continue my passion for educating others on self-advocacy, independence, and resourcefulness on a larger scale.
