Sometimes, a special person comes into your life. Someone who encourages you to try new things, pushes you to do more than you think you can, makes you believe in yourself, and loves you through it all.
For so many of us, and for so many of our children, that person is Vicky Terstegge.
Ms. Vicky has had an effect on thousands of children through her nearly 40 years in education. She has taught generations of students how to read, how to write, how to add, and how to tie their shoes.
And by her example, she has taught all of us about love. About commitment. About following your passion. And about not giving up.
For Ms. Vicky, the past few years have not been easy, as more than once she has battled brain tumors that have taken over her body. But throughout her struggle, she has maintained an eternal optimism, a fierce faith, and a daily commitment to her students. She has been at school, guiding them and teaching them, every single day.
Now though, the tumors are back, and Ms. Vicky is waging battle again. She is currently receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, far from her family, her home, her church, and the students she loves so much.
While she undergoes treatment and surgery, and for an undetermined time afterward as she recovers, Ms. Vicky will be unable to work. She has already begun to incur expenses from this latest round of treatment, and her financial burden is growing.
Ms. Vicky has supported, encouraged, and loved our children for the last four decades.
Now it is time for us to do the same for her.
