I’m Angela Rozas, a 35 year old mother of two who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) a year ago.
I’m raising funds to undergo a groundbreaking treatment overseas that will hopefully slow or stop the progression of this debilitating disease.
The treatment I need is not available in Australia and, at the rate my MS is progressing, I don’t have years to wait until it is.
My two beautiful children, Johnathan and Isabella, are 10 and seven years old and as terrifying as the progression of this disease has been for me, it frightens me more that before too long this disease could rob me of the ability to be the active mother I want to be.
Since being diagnosed in March last year the disease has progressed so rapidly that it now affects my speech, balance, coordination and is now attacking the left side of my body.
In just 12 months, tasks that I use to do with ease and without thinking are becoming harder and harder. Worse still, experts can’t tell me how far or fast this disease will progress.
My husband Chris has been a fantastic support and together we’ve come across a treatment called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) which works in a similar way to the chemotherapy used to treat some cancers.
Many countries have HSCT available and our research led us to decide that travelling to Mexico for treatment may be our best chance at slowing or stopping the advancement of my MS and ultimately prolonging my ability to be the wife and mother I want to be for my family.
HSCT is very expensive. We’ll need $70,000 in order to travel to Mexico in July to have a shot at this. Unfortunately Chris and I just don’t have the means to fund this ourselves.
So, as difficult as it is, we’re asking you – our friends, family and community – for a helping hand. With your prayers and support I hope one day I’ll be able to show you all the difference you’ve made in my life and in the lives of Chris, Johnathan and Isabella.
