Heartbreaking to see a beloved community leader out on the street. Ms. Connie's home was her van, and it was destroyed by fire on July 13th, while it was parked at the Boyle Heights City Hall. Ms. Connie is a staple in Los Angeles and we cannot forget her. Consuelo Gomez, also known as Connie, has been a strong community advocate for senior citizens in East LA and Boyle Heights, founding the non-profit Los Abuelitos, and since 1999 she has helped secure more than 7,000 U.S. citizenships to mostly senior citizens. She is a tireless advocate for restoring the dignity and respect of all of our "abuelitos".
If you can find it in your heart to please donate what you can to help get Ms. Connie back on her feet. Our goal is to get her car back and maybe just maybe find her permanent housing.
