Mrs Jo Shedden - Cancer Fund

On 14th February this year (2017) Mother was diagnosed with Cancer in a number of locations throughout her body.

Her primary was in her right colon, with secondary’s in her liver, lung, stomach cavity and neck.

She was told by her private doctor that due to it having spread and being stage 4, she had a few months to a year to live.  They could offer Chemotherapy but it would only be palliative.

My parents therefore went to Royal Marsden for a 2nd opinion and without receiving a face to face appointment they were told that Royal Marsden felt the same way.  However some Radiotherapy may help to alleviate some of the excruciating pain she had in her shoulder and arm.

She attended Royal Marsden for 5 sessions of Radiotherapy which yielded no pain relief and the doctor she was under there was mystified but offered no further help.

We weren't ready to give up yet so, after extensive research a hospital south of Los Angeles was located who had success rates of twice that in the UK.

However this would require a 3 week stay at the hospital and cost at least £30,000.

Although this was a lot more money than was spare, they decided it to commit to it.

So from 22nd May to 11th June Mother attended the hospital south of  Los Angeles.

The Doctors there carefully assessed her situation and took up to date scans to allow them to work with the current situation.

Their verdict was that she had 'mild tumour load' and good 'organ reserve' - meaning the size of the growth on each organ was small and hadn't taken over the organ.

They have also established that the growth on the neck has not impacted the spine therefore no immediate surgery is required and they fully believe there is no reason why their treatment would not work to reduce or clear Mother of cancer.

Whilst at the hospital Mother had a number of treatments to both build her immune system and attack the cancer and has returned home with an ongoing program of tablets that will continue this.

She will need to attend the hospital again in the future to enable them to monitor and tailor the treatment accordingly.

You can imagine just how encouraged Mother is to have this positive outlook.

We are not going to let cancer win but need your help to give this all we can.

Please give what you can - every donation is meaningful to us.

Thank you so much!
