Dear Family and Friends,
We are reaching out to you because we have finally started a GoFundMe account for our brother Larry, who has been suffering with an aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis since he was diagnosed in 1990 at age 29.
Larry's illness began in 1988 with a sudden and complete loss of vision in one eye and spasms in his legs. His MS symptoms progressed rapidly though the years. At 56 years old, he is confined to a wheelchair and needs a Hoyer lift to transfer his body. He is also greatly compromised by the numerous medical complications brought on as a direct result of his illness and the invasive treatments.
Larry is a college graduate and holds a degree in Economics as well as a degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. He was part owner and employee of our family business until 2000 when he needed to embark on a different career path due to his illness. He achieved his degree in Alcohol and Drug Counseling and began working per diem in a rehabilitation facility until 2012. Since 2012, he has been unable to work.
Larry's spirit has always remained hopeful and positive. He talks little of his pain or the complications from MS. He has been blessed with a loving wife and four remarkable sons, all of whom have made amazing sacrifices on his behalf.
In 2010, Larry and his family had to make significant and costly changes to their home to make it handicap accessable. Larry's wife took on two and a half jobs to meet the mortgage payments while continuing to care for Larry at home.
Although insurances and disability allowances have covered Larry's medical expenses, they do not cover all of his needs.
Our goal is to provide Larry with enough funds to offset his medical expenses and to repair his handicapped vehicle which will give him back a little of the freedom that this illness has cost him and his family.
