Kinsley's fight against leukemia

My name is Alisha Johnson, and I am here today to tell a story about a wonderful mother and her brave little girl.

Being a single mom is twice the work, twice the stress, twice the tears, but it is also twice the hugs and twice the love! Jessica Nauroth has done an impeccable job raising her 3 1/2-year-old daughter Kinsley.  Kinsley is a beautiful girl inside and out, kind hearted and full of spirit.

Recently, Kinsley has not been feeling like her normal self. Instead of wanting to play and have fun, she is wanting to lay down because she's too tired to play. This once happy, outgoing, energetic little girl is now feeling exhausted. She is showing signs of allergies and common cold symptoms. This continues on and off for approximately six weeks.

Mom is concerned as her precious daughters symptoms are getting worse. On February 16, 2015, Jessica took her daughter to Thunderbird Banner Hospital for a closer look. Initially, the doctors thought Mrsa could be the root of the problem. After conducting some blood tests, they found Kinsley’s red blood count was well below standard count. The next step is a blood transfusion to bring her levels back up.

The hematology/oncology doctors aren't sure what's going on with Kinsley. She hasn't been making red blood cells for about 6 to 8 weeks.  The quickest way to see what's going on with the blood is to do a bone marrow surgery. The marrow test will confirm if Kinsley has Leukemia.

Roughly 24 hours later the results are in and they are not in her favor. Kinsley has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).

Today, February 19, 2015, Kinsley is undergoing her first chemo treatment. She'll be subjected to several heavy treatments for the next six weeks and endure another bone marrow surgery. She will have at least 20 spinal taps over the next six months or so. Both mother and daughter are in for the fight of their lives.

Mom will be required to stay home and take care of Kinsley for the next several months. The goal is to raise $10,000 to help her with her medical expenses and anything else she needs to take care of Kinsley through this difficult time. She is just one person and it’s hard to fight such a huge battle alone. With so many of us out there, we can join them in this battle against cancer. There is power in numbers and this little girl definitely needs our help.

Please consider joining us in this fight, together we can make a difference!
