Like many people in 1995 we came to America from the UK to persue the American Dream. In 2011 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had A radical Prostatectomy Via Davinci Robot in September the same year. After the surgery I started having complications from a procedure that was not done correctly and required 5 more surgeries. which my insurance did not cover
I feel this was due to Malpractice, the result of having 6 surgeries under General Aneasthetic resulting in minor brain damage causing memory loss.
After 3 months I developed Lymphedema and the same doctor stated it was nothing to do with the surgery! (Fact! removal of 4 Lymph nodes will cause Lymphedema). my PSA was zero at that point
I was in disbelief when pathology reports came back and I was told a peice of the prostate was missing and not to worry about it.
Very frustrated I was unable to fulfill my duties in my current employment and ended up having to quit my job due to incapacitation, and ended up finding a lower paid job.
My yearly physical was due with my GP, I had to request a PSA test, just a feeling I had.
To my dismay I had a PSA showing and it was high.
I was then referred to an Oncologist, the Cancer that was supposed to be gone had returned.
MRI, Bone Scans, Bone Marrow extractions, injections and X Rays are not finding anything, and my insurance is not covering it, I am with MD Anderson to this day fighting Prostate cancer for the second time, and will beginning another round of tests in March 2015.
Lawyers in Houston cannot help me because the Statute of Limitations being 2 years. Even though I have all the evidence to sustain the Malpractice Theory the Law restricts me from making any Malpractice claims to cover the costs.
It is my goal is to beat the Cancer and be well enough to raise money for Cancer, and fight to change the Statute of Limitations in Texas. How do we change the Law, to stop this happening to others? Maybe a petition?
