Hey all. Last week I had to get an MRI scan for a pituitary adenoma I've left unchecked for a couple years while I was away at graduate school.
A pituitary adenoma is a benign brain tumor in the pituitary gland that causes my body to overproduce prolactin, a hormone mostly produced in pregnant women. I know, the words brain tumor sound scary, but I'm fine and 99% of these cases never turn malignant. Your girl is alright!
Anyway, my doctor wanted me to get this scan because my prolactin levels have risen substantially since last checked, which could mean there had been some growth in the brain tumor. Some symptoms of a pituitary adenoma include infertility and loss of menstrual periods, and if large enough could affect vision and cause headaches and dizziness.
This MRI Scan was an unexpected expense for me at this time, especially since I had just burned a hole into my bank account to fly to Ox-Bow School of Art next week. I have private insurance with a high deductible so this scan is completely out of pocket, and I could really use some help. The estimated price of the MRI scan is over $1,400. I'm asking for $1,600 to offset the GoFundMe percentage taken out.
I wouldn't ordinarily think to do this, but I'm really in a financial pickle. I'd be grateful for any help and would love to offer some swag from my studio to anyone who donates. Thanks!
