Since September 2016, we have led student activism on refugee issues, calling for compassionate policymaking and providing direct assistance to recently-resettled families in our own community.
OUR MISSION
Michigan Refugee Assistance Program (MRAP) was founded on the idea that University of Michigan students who are passionate about helping refugees could do so right in their own backyards. MRAP works closely with local refugee resettlement agencies to connect passionate students with volunteering opportunities, allowing them to work with and on behalf of refugees. Our goal is not only to provide assistance in areas where it is needed most, but to also facilitate cross-cultural understanding between students and refugees. In addition to an in-kind volunteering effort, MRAP's Fundraising and Education & Advocacy committees work to generate public awareness of refugee issues and to create a welcoming community in southeastern Michigan for these new Americans.
We are fundraising to support the efforts of our community partner organizations, including Jewish Family Services of Ann Arbor, Samaritas, and Freedom House Detroit. 80% of your donation will go directly to those organization's resettlement programs and help bolster the work they do. Additionally, 15% percent of your donation will go to support education and advocacy programming in and around the Ann Arbor community by MRAP members. Finally, 5% of your donation will be used to cover operational expenses such as gas for our volunteers.
By donating to MRAP, you are helping some of our community's most vulnerable members get on their feet in their new homes. We appreciate every donation, no matter the amount!
