Glidden Christmas Light Show

Traci Glidden is a good person who does great things.
When I met her, she was talking about the list of families who would face the Grinch if she didn't spread Christmas cheer. Each year, Traci and her husband Mike support as many families as they can; buying presents for the children, food for the pantry, and filling everyone's stocking with care. This is just one way they make sure as many families as possible have something to celebrate during the holiday season, and it all comes from Traci, and her husband Mike's, pocket.
She also sends hundreds and into the THOUSANDS of cards to service members who will not make it home for Christmas. She handwrites each one. Last year, she sent out 1,500. This year she hopes to surpass that, but she often runs out of cards.
And then, she makes, and bakes, and decorates. Especially for the Glidden Family Christmas Light Show.
It started in 2013, and they lost count after 50,000 lights. More than a light show, this is an event that hundreds of people in our community turn out for. Last year the light show was 40 minutes long. Opening night the Santa Claus Express (a fire truck with a slide!) brings the big man himself to visit with the kids. Traci bakes hundreds of cookies to hand out, with coloring books and crayons.
There's a mailbox in front of the house, "North Pole" it says. Every child's Christmas wish is read, and a response written, by hand, by Traci.
Their light show runs from the last weekend of November to January 1. But there's a hitch this year.
The earthquake did a lot of damage to the Glidden's home. They lost the computer that they used to run the light show, and many of the lights were destroyed.
The Glidden's have been paying for this out of their pocket. It's their gift to the community, and they don't mind one bit. But this year, replacing everything at once, along with all the home repairs, is too much of a load for one family to carry on their own.
This fund has been specifically set up to purchase replacement lights, and to help pay the electric bill. Please consider a small donation, and come out to the show!
