Mr. Liu Suddenly Passed Away

The owner of the cleaners business next to my business suddenly passed away. We became friends shortly after I started my business. He would clean my linens from work. When we would have conversations I did my best to understand his broken English and he did his best to speak it. Several times he needed my help because he had a customer or repair man that couldn't understand him and he would come in my front door and ask me to help him out. He was always grateful for my help. He would put his hands together and bow his head while saying "thank you, thank you, thank you" in his broken English. One afternoon his big washing machine wasn't working correctly. He asked me for help. He tried to look it up on YouTube to fix it himself. That night I looked it up and went back the next day to help him fix it. Him with his Chinese accent and me with my Chicago nasal twang and we managed to fix it and have a good time doing it. As I walked out not wanting or expecting anything for helping him, he offered to pay me. Instead he pulls out a bottle of wine (he doesn't drink) and said his wife wanted him to give it to me for helping. For three years we were great business neighbors. His business had a steady flow of customers in and out all day long. That's what he built in the 20 years he was there.
Several weeks ago I realized I hadn't seen Mr. Liu for a week. On my way into work I stopped at the cleaners and asked Mrs. Liu if Mr. Liu was visiting his daughter in California. That's when I found out the sad story about how quickly he became sick. She told me he was driving home from work and had double vision "saw two street lights". They went to the hospital and they quickly determined he was full of cancer "from head to toe" I was told. It was only a couple weeks before he passed away.
I spoke with Mrs. Liu today and found out some details about her and her business. There will be no ceremony or visiting for Mr. Liu because of COVID. When COVID hit in March and nobody was working in their office their business was hit very hard. No more steady flow of cars in and out. Mrs. Liu is not going to keep the business but doesn't know what she can do with it. She is in talks with the landlord to negotiate her rent for the last few months she is there. She stated she needed $10,000 so she can transfer the business to a close friend and get herself moved to California with her daughter. I asked her if I could help and she gave me the go ahead.
My plea to anyone that has read this far. COVID has hit their businesses very hard. Mrs. Liu needs our help. After I left the cleaners I was thinking about how I was going to help. I decided to use the proven platform gofundme rather than take on a monumental task of doing this myself. First COVID has ruined their business and now this death that has shattered Mrs. Liu's life and business.
All funds collected will go directly to help Mrs. Liu pick up the pieces and move on. I am sad that Mr. Liu passed and I will be equally sad when Mrs. Liu moves on to the next stage in her life.
