Open Heart Surgery

The Smith family is hoping to raise some money for Jaime’s upcoming open heart surgery this summer.  Jaime was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at age 26, although it’s a genetic disease she was born with, it didn’t present symptoms till later. At age 29 she got implanted with a internal defibrillator due to running very dangerous runs of ventricular tachycardia. Over the years things have worsen. Her heart has grown significantly. She now has obstruction which is making her incredibly sick with shortness of breath and passing out with light exertion. A team of HCM specialist believe a septal myectomy can help her greatly with relieving these symptoms. Septal myectomy is the surgical procedure that can be done to remove the muscle thickening causing the obstruction and restore proper blood flow. Patients often report a rapid relief of their symptoms after this procedure. This team of specialist not only believe it will help with symptoms but also extend chances of living to a normal life expectancy. Jaime is now 37 years old and currently unemployed due to severe health issues. Her husband is a dedicated provider who has been working for the VA for the past 9 years; however with a family of four including two little girls the financial situation has been tough with constant incoming medical bills.
