<div>The Smiths were on vacation in Hawaii and were in a tragic car accident at the end of June on the Big Island. They were taken to Hilo Medical Center and it was determined that Bekah needed additional medical care. She was airlifted to Queens Medical Center on Oahu, and Crystal (mom) went with her. Jacob (dad) stayed with the boys at Hilo Medical Center on the Big Island. Banks had an appendectomy and has a small lung laceration that will heal on its own. Jake has a vertebral fracture that will heal on its own. Jacob was discharged with minor injuries. Crystal was discharged with a concussion. Bekah was in the ICU for an extended time at Queens and had surgery to stabilize her fractured C1 vertebrae and it was successful!! It needed to be repaired in order to protect her spinal cord. She suffered a brain injury that will not require surgery. She has now been discharged from Queens and traveled via air ambulance to Atlanta, GA where she was admitted to The Shepherd Center Foundation Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program. Pray that we continue seeing miracles in the way of her progress.

<div>The Smiths love big, and many people have been impacted by them. They are generous with their time, their words, their presence, their home, and their finances. This is an opportunity for us to rally around them and reciprocate that generosity. The Lord used many connections in Hawaii to care well for the Smiths. Individuals that were strangers a few weeks ago set up temporary housing and a car for the Smiths during their time at Queens. Without knowing how long the recovery will be, there are many expenses ahead.

<div>This is an opportunity to help with their financial needs. It’s an opportunity to bless the people and organizations (Harbor Honolulu Church, FCA, Young Life East Honolulu, VASH) in Hawaii and Atlanta that have and will provide resources to the Smiths. It’s a way to help when most of us are physically far from them. If this goes above and beyond their needs, they will steward it well and give as they see fit. Thank you for being a part of the “big C” Church and truly being the hands and feet of Jesus.
