Help Molly Beat Cancer

Donation protected
On April 29th, Molly, our happy and playful Italian Greyhound/Mini Dachshund mix, was diagnosed with a very large splenic mass.  She'd been losing weight from not being able to eat and her stomach was becoming bloated.

X-rays showed that a large mass was suppressing her intestines and was bleeding into the abdominal cavity.  An ultrasound yesterday confirmed that the mass was growing from her spleen and that there was a likelihood of it being cancerous.

We have decided to go ahead and schedule surgery to remove the mass.

BUT THAT ISN'T WHAT THIS FUNDRAISER IS FOR!

This fundraiser is for what comes next.  So far, I have managed to pay for the x-rays and the ultrasound.  With the screams of my bank account ringing in my ears, I can pay for the surgery.

However, we're talking about a particularly aggressive cancer and I live in a somewhat remote area where vets, in general, don't provide things like chemotherapy.  Moreover, hemangiosarcoma has a poor prognosis, to begin with.

I currently have her on a Tagamet and Benadryl protocol, but there are new treatments with a peptide called GDF11 that people are reporting to be very successful in fighting this particular form of cancer.

I have filled out the form to get her started on this treatment, though experimental still.  Unfortunately, I will need some help on this one.

The meter to measure her vital signs is about $250 and the drug itself is $350, so that's an expense of $600 right there.  I also anticipate the cost of needles and biostatic water just from my own independent research.

The entire program costs $3,000, but I have three months to come up with that money myself, so I'm not asking for that kind of money here.  I just need the immediate expenses covered to give Molly a fighting chance whereas she otherwise doesn't have one.  I would take out a loan, but I'm already paying a loan off and the pandemic has already made it difficult to do so.  I can't take out another or I would.

Unfortunately, the disease is a ticking clock.  I just don't have time to save up a couple of paychecks before starting treatment.

Against all odds, if the mass turns out to be a benign tumor, then at least I won't be hurting so badly from the cost of surgery.

Why should you help?

I promise to keep this page updated with all the new developments we have so everyone here can see how effective we are at treating, and hopefully curing, our beloved Molly.  This way others will know what kind of hope is out there when facing down a nasty disease like hemangiosarcoma.

Molly's story, and the data obtained from it, has the power to help other pets out there facing a devastating diagnosis.

Please don't turn a blind eye.  Help Molly in her time of need.

I love my dog.  I know that anyone who owns pets would do anything within their power to help them.  Right now, Molly is still active and happy.  She isn't depressed, lethargic, or weak, nor do I plan on forcing her to keep going should she become so.  She's a family member who still wants to enjoy the summer and spend her time bossing us around and obsessively grooming her sister.

She came to us after the untimely death of our father, lost to a heart attack at the age of 56.  She's a fighter, a sweetheart, and she carries his love within her.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your donation.  It means more to me (and Molly) than you will ever know.
