With more than 100 years history, Minneapolis Hockey is deeply rooted within the Minnesota sports community. As the 2019-20 Minneapolis Boy’s High School Hockey season begins it is evident that the Minneapolis Hockey program is on the road to reestablishing itself as a Minnesota High School hockey powerhouse.
Past - At its peak Minneapolis had 10 competitive high school hockey teams, one for each high school. Alumni from this era includes collegiate players, professionals and Olympians. From Stanley Cup Champions to Gold Medalists Minneapolis was a hub of hockey excellence in Minnesota.
Present - Going into its tenth season Minneapolis Boys High School Hockey continues the grand tradition of strong and skilled teams. It is currently a cooperative effort among all seven Minneapolis High Schools (North, South, Edison, Patrick Henry, Roosevelt, Washburn and Southwest.) With players hailing from neighborhoods across the city Minneapolis’ bond is still very strong amongst its community. We’re excited that in January 2020 the 14th Annual Hockey Day in Minnesota will be hosted in the State of Hockey’s largest city, Minneapolis! The showcase game in the weekend long celebration will be Minneapolis versus Warroad. 2020 Hockey Day in Minnesota
Future – The Minneapolis Boys Hockey Boosters strongly believe that creating an environment of accessibility is critical to the long-term success of our boys high school hockey teams. Our vision is that all Minneapolis students should have an opportunity to experience and participate in the great game of hockey, bringing forth an inclusive culture that welcomes new hockey players and families. The Minneapolis Boys Hockey Boosters are actively promoting the game of hockey to all genders, races and religions. We support partners such as the Herb Brooks Foundation to expand the game to new participants who bring a full range of backgrounds and experiences.
As a 501c3 nonprofit, the Minneapolis Boys Hockey Boosters sole purpose is to provide financial assistance to the Minneapolis Boys High School Hockey team. Minneapolis Boys Hockey Boosters ability to financially assist the Minneapolis Boys High School Hockey teams with annual funding will go a long way in eliminating financial barriers to access and build equitable opportunity across the entire Minneapolis Public Schools population.
The Minneapolis Boy’s High School Hockey program is partially funded by Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). The athletic budget does not cover the full cost of a robust season of practices and games. Minneapolis Boys Hockey Boosters work hard to make up the difference through participation fees, fundraising drives and donations.
It is with our entire community in mind that we are asking you to make a charitable donation to our Minneapolis Boys High School Hockey program. We’re working towards a 2019-20 goal of $50,000 to fund necessary items such as uniforms, hockey equipment, transportation, training, overnight accommodations, meals, and ice time rental. A season of hockey for a single player approaches $3500 and we are grateful for contributions of any size towards our goal.
With your donation we can continue to build upon our foundation creating a lasting legacy for Minneapolis Hockey.
