My name is Michaella Z. Reis. I'm a 25-year-old from Brazil, and my life took an unexpected turn on July 8, 2023—the same day as my birthday. As a recent law school graduate, I was full of dreams and aspirations. Little did I know that a single moment would alter my path forever.
We were on our way to the airport; my father, my younger brother, and I intended to join our family for my grandfather's funeral -- a rock hurled by an individual fleeing from the police struck our moving car, shattering the glass and striking me in the face. The impact caused a high-energy head injury, and the doctors call it a miracle that I survived. Five facial reconstruction surgeries later, I now have titanium plates supporting my forehead, left eye, and nose. But the trauma didn't end there. My vision on the left side has been affected, and an ocular edema threatens irreversible visual loss. Each passing day matters—I urgently need treatment to prevent further deterioration. My mother has accompanied me with all my appointments and travels during this challenging time as I can't do it alone due to instability.
In Brazil, everyone has been gracious in following my journey, but I am seeking a second opinion. The Mayo Clinic, renowned for its expertise, beckons as my last beacon of hope. Unfortunately, financial stability eludes me, but faith fuels my determination. As a law graduate, I understand the importance of fighting for justice. Now, I'm fighting for my own sight.
I'm seeking help to cover the costs of my vision treatment. Your support can make a difference—whether it's a donation, sharing my story, or spreading awareness. I have decided to obtain a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic as my last resource of hope. As I mentioned, I don't have that kind of financial stability, but what I have is faith that everything is possible when God takes control, and I believe it!
Thank you for being part of my healing process. Please help me make this miracle a reality. With your financial support, we can ensure that I regain my sight and continue my journey toward recovery.
